The plan was to finish all seven quilts. It is still working, although very slowly. There are times when the best plans have to be laid aside for something else. A good friend and neighbor asked me to make a baby quilt for her. Of course, the answer was “yes”. The baby quilt is in process. The plan to finish seven quilts has a small slow down. I am basting the quilts in the evening, but the quilting has stopped until the baby quilt is finished. I showed my neighbor my stash and she chose these fabrics. Usually, I choose a patten and then choose the fabric, but this is doing it the other way. I’ve always wanted to make another quilt like Emma’s quilt. The quilt would be like that one. The fabrics would work with it.

The quilt has nine stars with sashing. The center of the star was cut from four identical triangles. The Ginny Beyer stripe fabric was perfect for this. The problem was to cut 32 identical triangles. The Tucker Trimmer was perfect for this. It has a 45-degree edge with a line down the middle. I cut 36 rectangles from the large stripe. The back of the fabric gave a clearer view of the pattern, so I cut all the pieces from the back side. They fit together perfectly.

When the cutting was done, there was a pile of small triangles. I sewed two together and cut a 2 1/2-inch square. They are in a baggie now and will be put together at a later date for another project.

There was also another stack of cutoffs that will be used later. The blue flowers can be fussy cut for the same project.

This has been a pleasant delay in my plan to finish ufos. I have two more to baste. The quilting will come later. The Temperature quilt is up to date. One of the best parts of basting the ufos on the basting frame is to plan the quilting pattern while basting.

I have a plan to finish a stack of quilt tops. There are seven tops in this stack, including a new Potato Chip quilt. The basting rack is in the living room. It will stay there until all seven quilt tops are quilted.

The seven tops have the parts to sew together for backings and battings. The baby Mile a Minute was on the frame first. It has been basted. The next step is to quilt. The batting and backing on the next quilt will be finished and the quilt placed on the frame to be basted. The quilting will be done in the daytime and the basting in the evening.

The Mile a Minute has been quilted. It was quilted with a wavy stitch with the backing at the top. The lines in the backing pattern made perfect spacing. The color of the thread was parchment which hid the quilting and made texture.

The second quilt is almost basted. The third one is ready to replace it. The plan is going slowly as the weather is beautiful and I enjoy sitting on the deck and relaxing. Sewing can be done on rainy days. In the meantime, I have been “organizing” the sewing room again. Patterns are back where they belong. I know where all the ufos are. There are many placemats to finish. There is still a lot more to do, but I do have some empty boxes.

The Temperature Quilt is half done. Six months are finished. This year is going by too fast. I’m making the geese a little different this year. Each day, I send an email to myself with the lowest and highest temperatures of the day. Then, once a week, I make all the flying geese and add them to the row.

Now that I’m not making the Cat on the Couch, I have to find a ufo to replace it. It will be a quilt from the same time period. Three quilts are in the running. The Ugly Quilt, the Big Green quilt, and the Village Square. I have to decide soon. It has to be finished by September. My decision will be made by the next blog.
